about

Talking to Walls presents "Something Old, Something New" - a collection of Irish rockers that have been tour-tested over many years. True to the title, "Something Old, Something New" presents two familiar hits alongside material not previously released, as well as brand new recordings.

For the first time ever, they have collected previously-released songs - including "Song for Megan" and "Black Hearts Parade," and paired them with new recordings of old classics - the traditional "Cooley's Reel" and "Wild Rover," along with "There's Gonna Be a Party (in Black Rock Tonight!)."

These go together perfectly, like Guinness and Jameson.

The pandemic of 2020 left the band feeling more separated than ever as the world shut down. But the urge to be together and create was stronger than ever. First, they went into the vaults and compiled their recordings of Irish punk songs - some of which had never been released in any form.

One of these new tracks is "There's Gonna Be a Party (in Black Rock Tonight!)" - a song that their home city of Bridgeport, CT had even funded the recording of (and featured guitarist John Pioli), but the intended album was sidelined at the time.

"Song for Megan" (from 2010's "We Were Not So Tall") of course makes an appearance here, as well as the 2011 single "Black Hearts Parade" - and it's original b-side, a live, acoustic rendering of "Song for Megan."

More importantly, the band found a way to record and collaborate remotely in 2021 - seeing guitarist Nat Webb rejoin the fold to record a brand new song, the traditional "Wild Rover." Not content to just record a new song on their own, the band enlisted the help of friends from the local scene to make the song even bigger. The song serves as a love letter to Black Rock/Bridgeport CT's venue The Acoustic, which served as the home from which Talking to Walls launched their tours and ambitions. (This venue is also where album opener "Cooley's Reel" was recorded, in 2010, after the band returned home from an epic 60-date summer tour.)

"Wild Rover" is the sound of friends reuniting at the table, only to push back the chairs and jam deep into the night.
